A Different Kind of Peace

A Different Kind of Peace

A story from one of our students. Location: Middle East
During one of our ministry times, we went to a place by a river where families usually go to hang out, spend time together, and relax.

I went with another girl, and we were just walking around when we saw an older woman sitting with her granddaughter, who was playing around her.

I felt like, “Let’s just sit here.” So my friend and I sat with her, greeted her, and asked her how she was doing and how things were going. She was very open to sharing about her life, and we found out that she had gone through several major losses. She had lost her son and her son-in-law within a short period of time.

My friend started talking to her about how much God sees her pain and understands her hurt. Even if she tries to act like she’s okay, God sees and understands all the sadness and pain she’s carrying. He knows even the things she doesn’t share with anyone. And He loves her so much.

Then I started sharing with her about some of the losses I had gone through in my own life.

The woman was deeply comforted. She is Muslim, but she said, “I felt something different in you. The way you talk is different, and even your smiles are different.”

We prayed with her, and she felt so much more at peace afterward.
