Later, after I sat down, he walked by again, and I immediately felt the weight of the Holy Spirit. I sensed hostility and deep pain around him. After praying for a moment, I went over and started talking with him. He told me he had been kicked out of the place he was staying and spent the previous night on the streets. He has multiple medical conditions, including POTTS, along with many mental health struggles. He had called 911 the night before and ended up in the hospital. He was at the library trying to find somewhere to stay, but his mom had just agreed to let him come home. Once he told me this, he began to open up about his entire life.

He shared that he transitioned three years ago and mentioned that he knew the Bible taught differently, but felt he had to make that choice to survive. I did not say anything in response but continued listening. He talked about the anger that can rise in him without warning and then shared the most painful memory of his life.
When he was eighteen, his father tragically died after falling down the stairs. He witnessed his father's gruesome death and said everything in his life changed after that. He grew up in the church and used to love talking with his dad about theology. He still has nightmares and sleep paralysis connected to the trauma.

He then told me about his former marriage, his children, and the sense of never fitting in as he grew up. He talked openly about depression, suicide attempts, and the damage it caused to his body. When I asked how he copes with all of this, he said it has been extremely difficult but that he has been turning back to God over the last few months. He believes the spiritual pressure he is experiencing is because he is moving toward truth. It was as if something shifted. He began describing everything God has been showing him. He has been reading scripture again and feels strongly about holiness, obedience, and not living a lukewarm life. He even shared that his belief about once-saved-always-saved caused tension with family and ultimately got him removed from his uncle’s home.

Throughout our conversation, he mentioned his transition several times. It sounded like he carried regret, yet he was mainly feeling conviction about other areas of his life. He said that if God ever made something clear to him, he would obey. He talked passionately about walking the narrow road and wanting his life to align with scripture.

He told me that a few months earlier, he had called a pastor to ask biblical questions. Before asking anything, he told the pastor about his transition. The pastor responded by telling him he was destined for hell and beyond saving. He said that conversation crushed him. He shared how rejected he felt, how much shame he carried, and how deeply he wants to know God but does not have anyone to help him understand. He even related to Elijah, feeling at the end of himself and needing God to fill him. He kept expressing that God is his safe place and his strength.

I told him he was highlighted to me by the Lord and that God sees him and desires to heal, not shame him. We talked about the story in 1 Kings 19 and then prayed together. I told him I would like to stand with him and walk with him, and we agreed to meet again soon. Before leaving, we hugged and he said he was not even planning to come to the library but changed his plans at the last minute. He said now he knew why.

I first met her at the library with her daughter, Lilly. We had only shared a very simple conversation before, but today, when I walked in, I immediately recognized her. I sat down and began a conversation with her. She started telling me about her work and how she was trying to find things to do with her daughter this summer. After some more simple conversation, I asked her about a tattoo on her wrist that said “honest.” That opened a door.

She began telling me about her life’s journey of learning to be honest with herself. She shared how she tends to be very empathetic and often takes on others' burdens, but never really knew how to share her own. She told me she always felt like the black sheep in her family. She had gone to a very small Catholic school until sophomore year, then transitioned to a large public school where she felt out of place.

Eventually, years ago, she met a guy. She described their relationship and how they tried to learn to be honest with one another and express emotions. She said she never wanted to be a burden to anyone but was learning how to cope. She had lost all her friends and made that man her everything. She admitted she deserved better but settled because, for the first time, she felt like she could express just a little of what she was holding inside. That relationship eventually ended, and now she is married to someone else.

She told me she doesn’t believe the heavy feeling will ever leave. She described it as a twenty-pound weight of anxiety constantly pressing on her chest. She said she still doesn’t feel like she can share her burdens and that the friends she does have only know about a quarter of what she’s actually going through.

I told her how hard that must be and shared how I once deeply related to her story. I asked if she felt like she always had to be the one to fix everything, because I used to feel that way too. I began sharing my testimony, how I had a similar experience growing up, how I carried everyone else’s burdens, and how I met a guy and still ended up feeling broken. Then I told her about the day I met Jesus– on the floor of my friend’s apartment.

She started crying.

I told her about the love of the Father, how He tells us to cast our anxieties on Him because He cares for us. I explained how He is the one who takes our heavy burdens, how He invites us to give them to Him. He will never be weighed down by them. He wants us to be free from anxiety. I shared how the twenty-pound weight I once carried lifted when I met Jesus and was filled with peace. I told her that no human was ever meant to carry what only God Himself could. He is a good Father.

Still crying, she began telling me how her roommate had encountered Jesus months ago and had been completely transformed. She said that when she asks him about struggles and how he deals with them, he always replies, “God’s got me.” She told me she had seen the evidence of transformation in his life again and again.
The Holy Spirit was heavy in that moment.

She apologized for crying, but I reminded her that Jesus has seen every tear and has bottled them. I told her that He has been with her through every one of them, and that He sees her.

I asked if I could pray with her, and she said yes.

After I prayed, she remained still for a while. When she sat up, she said that many people had prayed for her before, but she had never experienced what she had just felt. I told her that it was the Holy Spirit. I shared the gospel with her. We talked about what it means to still struggle, yet be full of peace, like her roommate. She said she wasn’t sure she could ever think differently or stop carrying anxiety.

I explained what it means to be born again, to go from death to life. I told her about the transformation Christ brings when we surrender and invite Him in.

She began to cry again, but had to leave to meet her husband. I told her I’d love to meet again. She hugged me tightly, and we talked about when we could meet next.

Pray for deliverance from anxiety and for her heart to continue to soften. Pray for an encounter! Pray for Hannah!

It was a typical school day for us in the Middle East. We started with team breakfast, followed by corporate worship and prayer. That morning during worship, we pressed in specifically to ask God to encounter persons of peace and to prepare the hearts of the people we would meet.

After class, we split into pairs to go out. My partner and I decided to take a long walk through an area we had never explored before. We wandered for hours, often hitting dead ends and having to change direction. During the walk, we talked about how Jesus sent out His disciples not knowing exactly where they were going. In that moment, I said, “We’ll eventually end up where God wants us to be.”

An hour or two later, after walking miles, we were wrapping up our time, or so we thought. Then across the street, I saw a large open metal door and caught a glimpse of a reddish soccer field. Without thinking twice, I crossed the street, walked up to the door, and asked, “Can I play?” They said yes.

We stepped inside and were immediately welcomed by a shirtless man with open arms. I soon found myself in the middle of a soccer game with a group of young men. My partner, feeling sick, watched from the sidelines. We were both under the weather, but I felt strongly that I was supposed to commit to the moment, so I did.

After the match, we learned that we were in an all boys orphanage, and everyone I had just
played soccer with were orphans. The man who had greeted us was named Ahmed. He had grown up in that orphanage and still visited every day because, to him, it was family. We sat and talked with him for a couple of hours, listening to his life story. Eventually, our conversation turned to faith. Ahmed and all the orphans were Muslim, but he shared openly about his relationship with God. When the conversation ended, he personally introduced us to everyone in the orphanage, including the manager who oversees the entire home.

Afterward, Ahmed took us on a walk through the neighborhood, introducing us by name to the local business owners. He even whistled into the streets and several dogs came running to him. It was clear that the whole neighborhood knew him. He eventually led us to a woman he called a mother figure. While my partner had a spiritual conversation with her, I continued to talk with Ahmed about his life. At one point, he created a group chat and began introducing us to even more of his friends. That night ended with us exchanging numbers and saying goodbye.

The next day, we returned to visit Ahmed and the orphanage. This time, we faced resistance at the same metal door. Ahmed was late to our agreed meeting time, but I kept thinking, “If this man is a person of peace, I need to stay and commit to him.” I felt God's peace over the situation and chose to wait. Eventually, Sherif arrived, and we were welcomed back in.

We played soccer again, and this time the manager approached us and said we were welcome to come anytime, not just on Fridays, which is the usual rule for visitors. He had seen our connection with Ahmed and the impact we were having, and he extended that favor out of respect and relationship. We were even invited to bring our instruments and play music with the boys.

Before we left, Ahmed told us that he had never had a real family, but when we came into his life, he felt truly loved. He now considers us his brothers. We introduced him to our spiritual leaders, whom we see as spiritual parents, and Ahmed now sees them as his own family too.

They watched Him pray, serve, heal, and teach. They listened as He spoke with the crowds, but they also heard the deeper conversations He had behind closed doors. He started with the Simple: sharing meals, asking questions, noticing people. Then He moved to the Serious: calling out struggle, inviting honesty, asking for sacrifice. Finally, He led them into the Spiritual: proclaiming the Kingdom, revealing the Father, and unleashing the Holy Spirit.

He Looked for People of Peace

Jesus sent out the Twelve and later the Seventy Two with specific instructions: look for those who welcome you, listen to you, and are ready to receive peace (Luke 10). We call them People of Peace—individuals who are open, hungry, and quick to share with others. They are the key to multiplication.

Jesus did not chase every crowd. He sifted, discerning who was ready to follow and who would walk away like the Rich Young Ruler. He knew that the movement would grow not through the masses, but through a few radically obedient people.

He Made Space for Discovery

Jesus often asked questions instead of giving quick answers. He told stories, not just sermons. He took people on a journey of discovery, allowing truth to settle deep into their hearts. That is why we use Discovery Bible Study (DBS)—not to teach, but to facilitate. We ask the 7 Questions that anchor people in worship, prayer, ministry, obedience, and evangelism.

He Empowered Quickly and Released Boldly

Jesus did not wait years to release His followers into leadership. He sent them out with what they had and trusted the Holy Spirit to work through them. In the same way, we train our students using the MAWL method: Model, Assist, Watch, Leave. We build with the expectation of 1 4 7 10: that by week ten, our students are already coaching others.

Disciple making is not a career. It is not a title. It is a lifestyle of radical obedience, Spirit led conversations, and deep trust that God is already at work in the harvest.

This is what Jesus did. And it is what we are doing. One conversation, one story, one disciple at a time.
